2012 New York International Gift Show

Rossi Back at the New York International Gift Show with Made in the USA Artwork

Artist Karen Rossi debuted her new Fanciful Flight™ line at the New York International Gift Fair this August. Internationally known for her caricature metal Fanciful Flights™, her newest designs are made here in her Connecticut studios. She started creating the original metal portraits in her father’s specialty welding shop during the 1980’s. Inspired by flying Gabriel the Herald Angel and early New England folk art, the pieces are adorned with charms to portray people’s hobbies and professions. Silvestri licensed Karen’s art work between 2000-2004, selling a miraculous 30 million dollars of gift product a year, at wholesale.

Following the demise of Silvestri’s parent company, Rossi searched for new licenses and dabbled with importing to bring her work from China and Thailand. The endeavors proved difficult, and the frustration led Karen to improvise her manufacturing techniques so that she could again produce her original designs in her own studio. “Advances in laser cutting and the craft industry (especially scrapbooking materials), enabled me to streamline my process so that my products could become much less labor intensive than they were in the 80’s, thereby remaining competitive in the marketplace.”

Rossi has enjoyed selling the retired Silvestri product in her Estore. She elaborates: “Through the Estore, I have been able to stay in touch with my fans, and handle requests for new designs. Currently we are creating a quilter, runner and gymnast to accommodate our special orders. All the new pieces were incorporated in the August debut”. Rossi also sold her fun and whimsical Alphabet Art as wall art and placemats (which is licensed for puzzle designs), along with the Judaica line she is well known for.

For those who would like to make their own Fanciful Flights™, Rossi opens her Norfolk studio on the Second Saturday of every month (show schedule permitting), or by appointment. Art workshops and parties average at $ 40.00 per person, depending on the project. Reservations suggested. While visiting, one may take in the breathless countryside that inspires the artist, or shop the Karen Rossi Boutique for both imported and original pieces. Karen is pleased to offer a studio tour to those interested in the process.

All of Karen's new gift product will be posted into her estore by the end of September and included in the featured products category as well as the individual subheadings such as Flights, Judaica, original art, plaques.
